With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner I thought I’d share The Leprechaun Tree idea with you.

The Leprechaun Tree is something my mom came up with and an activity I did with my kids when they were younger.

The Leprechaun Tree - St. Patrick's Day Fun for Kids. An fun activity from my childhood that I did with my kids when they were younger.

What is a Leprechaun tree?

When I was a kid, it was a three foot maple tree twig that just happened to sprouted up in our backyard.

No magic, just a crazy twig that my mom weaved a story around to entertain my younger brother’s and I.

Although I don’t remember all the details, I do remember my mom pointing out the kitchen window one day and saying “There’s a Leprechaun, I just saw him in our backyard!”. Of course my brothers and I went running outside hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

Obviously we didn’t see a Leprechaun but there were treats, a few candies under the tree for each of us.

From that point on my mom would occasionally put treats or a few coins around the tree for us to find. She would make it fun by telling us that they must have fallen out of the Leprechaun’s pot of gold.

Looking back I’m sure it was her way of getting us to go outside and play so she could get a break!

We spent a lot of time trying to catch that Leprechaun. I wish I had pictures of all the crazy contraptions we came up with!

Happy St. Patty’s Day!
