Grab a hula hoop and make this Spooky Mansion Wreath for Halloween!

This fun wreath was made with dollar tree items and mostly things I had around the house.

I primarily used plastic supplies because I wanted to make an outdoor decoration I could reuse next year! I do have to warn you, that not all plastic pocket folders are the same. The plastic folder I planned to use for this craft was thick and too difficult to cut, so I bought a lighter-weight one.

To make things as easy as possible, I recommend cutting the spooky mansion template out with scissors around the edges, then tackling the windows and door with an X-Acto knife.

See more info in the instructions below…but let’s just say an adult should do the cutting. An alternate option would be to use cardboard or poster board and hang your wreath indoors.

I really love how this Spooky Mansion Wreath came out and it looks so cute on my porch!

To get started on this craft, check out the photos and easy how-tos below.

  • A hula hoop (I used a small kid-sized one)
  • A plastic disposable table cloth
  • Faux Halloween flowers
  • A lightweight 9″x 12″ black plastic folder
  • A milk jug or water jug (opaque)
  • Black string
  • Black permanent marker
  • Clear scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • A sharp precision knife (X-Acto knife)
  • A hot glue gun
  • A print out of the Spooky Mansion Template
  • A Dollar Tree sign, bow, or any other decorations you’d like to add

How to Make a Spooky Mansion Wreath

Start by cutting a plastic table cloth into 3.5-inch strips to wrap the hula hoop. I used just the outer edge of this table cloth for mine because I liked the stripe pattern. Alternative: You could also use a solid color or even spray paint your hula hoop.

Next, grab a milk or water jug and draw ghosts with a permanent black marker then cut them with scissors. And, don’t worry about being perfect.

First score the windows, door, and fence (inside pieces) with an X-Acto knife. You don’t need to cut all the way through at this point, scoring will give you an idea of where to cut later. Next use scissors to cut the outer edge of the mansion. Remove the paper template and go back and cut the fence, windows, and door out. BE CAREFUL and an adult should do the cutting!

First score the windows, fence, and door with an X-Acto knife. Next cut the edges of the house with scissors. Then go back and cut the scored areas with an X-Acto — you may have to cut a couple of times depending on the thickness of the plastic.

Use scotch tape to tape the flower stems along the side and bottom of your wreath. When finished, hot glue flowers to fill in any gaps.
