Square feature image of three patriotic windsocks, DIY made from laundry baskets and plastic table cloths.

This DIY Patriotic Firecracker Windsock is easy to make with a few simple supplies –all plastic– so the windsock won’t get ruined if you hang it outside in the rain.

The base is a dollar store laundry basket and I was able to make three windsocks from one basket!

STEP 3

Cut the plastic table clothes into 18-inch long strips that are about 1-inch wide. Tip: It’s easier to cut if you keep the tablecloth folded.

STEP 4

Fold the top plastic tines inward then use clear scotch tape to tape multiple table cloth strips in alternating colors onto each bottom rung of the windsock. Each of the strips here contains 4-5 plastic layers.

STEP 6

Use clear tape to tape the water bottle top onto the top of the firecracker windsock. The plastic tines should be on the outside. This will make a sturdy base to hang the windsock. Then pull the string through the bottle cap and hang up your windsock!
