Try this easy Dollar Tree wire basket makeover!

This cozy fall craft is a great way to create beautiful and inexpensive gift baskets that can later be used for storage. Fill them with flavored coffees or pumpkin spice-scented candles to give to a special teacher or as a Thanksgiving hostess gift.

I found most of the supplies, the baskets, yarn, and rafia at Dollar Tree.

I bought the pom pom craft set on Amazon, and it makes four different-sized pom poms…1.4”, 1.8”, 2.5”, and 3.4″ size. You can link to it here if you’d like to check it out.

And, you don’t need a pom pom maker. You can make them by wrapping yarn around a piece of thick cardboard. It requires a little more trimming to get a round shape, but it does work.

How to Make A Fall Wire Basket With Pom Poms – 5 Easy Steps

STEP 1:

Wrap a good amount of yarn around both sides of the pom pom maker and close when finished.

STEP 2:

Keeping the pom pom maker tool closed and cut the yarn fibers down the center. I recommend using small pointed scissors like embroidery/needlework scissors.

With both sides of the pom pom maker filled and closed, here I am cutting the yarn down the middle.

Shown are the yarns cut but the pom pom maker is still closed. The next step is to tie and knot the yarns together to make a pom pom with a single strand of yarn in the same color.

Helpful Tip

To make different textured pom poms try using rafia, bakers twine, or metallic gift wrap ribbon!

STEP 3:

Tie the pom pom together tightly with a single piece of yarn at the center and three overhand knots.

Using about an 8 Inch piece of the same yarn to tie and knot the cut pom pom yarns together. The pom pom maker is still closed and there is a slit in the center of the pom pom maker that allows you to tie and knot all the yarns together.

STEP 4:

Remove the pom pom tool by pulling it apart at the center. Trim as needed.

STEP 5:

Use wire to attach your pom poms to a basket. I used 28-gauge steel wire.
