Thrifty trash to treasure ideas – clever repurposed pot lid projects!

I have a few ideas for lids without a pot! I especially love vintage enamel pot lids. They come in many beautiful colors and usually have a few chips or cracks that only add to their charm.

Old pot lids can be found at thrift stores, yard sales, or online shops like Etsy. You may even have one or two tucked away in your kitchen cabinets. Below are some ways to put them to good use!

1. Strawberry Kitchen Decor

If you find a white, chippy enamel lid, give it new life as kitchen decor. I cut this colorful strawberry design out of permanent vinyl on my Cricut Maker. I love how it came out and my teaspoons will always be within reach for baking.

The vintage, chippy enamel white lid that has a rusty c handle in the middle with a touch of it's original red paint. Hanging from a hook on the center handle is a set of vintage aluminum measuring spoons. This cheerful strawberry pot lid hangs on the side of my white kitchen cabinet in the kitchen window with measuring spoons at the ready for baking!

To hang it, I used a generous amount of Silicone caulk to glue a piece of scrap wood to the back with a screw-eye in the center. Another option would be to glue twine to the back.

2. Pot Lid Flag Holder

I snagged these enamel pot lids at the flea market to make this beautiful nostalgic flag holder. This was an easy upcycle. First, I drilled holes into the top and bottom pans. Then, I spray-painted the top lid blue (it was a worn-out beige) and decorated the bottom one with permanent vinyl lettering that I cut on my Cricut before attaching them with screws to a wood board.

3. Glass Lid Turned Plant Holder

This glass lid isn’t vintage but came from an old frying pan. When the enamel starts chipping on a pan, it’s time to replace it. To turn it into a plant holder I picked up a plant hanger chain at Dollar Tree and used wire to attach it to the pan lid.

I also put the old frying pan to good use by turning it into a pedestal planter for the yard. You can check out that project here if you’re curious.

You’ll never lose your garden shears with these cute pot lid holders. These two lids went directly to my antique store booth for my spring reset.
