Make these adorable felt gingerbread ornaments ahead of the holidays to give as sweet little gifts for teachers, friends, family, or anyone on your list. I hand-stitched mine, but if you’re short on time, you can still pull these together fast—see the quick, simplified version below.
Supplies
- Stiff felt (for body, eyes, mouth)
- Zig-zag ribbon
- Satin ribbon or string to hang ornaments
- Needle and thread (white, red, green)
- Buttons
- Poly-Fil stuffing
- Scissors
- Stick pins
- Any additional decorations you like
Short On Time?
Try a simplified, no-sew version of this cute gingerbread craft. Just cut one gingerbread man (front only) using the template in the supplies list above. Then hot glue buttons, felt for eyes and a mouth, and any other decorations on.
How to Make Felt Gingerbread Ornaments
STEP 1
Start by cutting out the gingerbread body. You’ll need to cut two for the front and back.

STEP 2
Sew the details onto the front. When cutting the zig-zag ribbon, I recommend cutting it long enough to wrap around the back of the front piece of the body felt for a more finished edge.

STEP 3
Sew the front and back of your gingerbread together, starting at the top. First, secure the ribbon for hanging, then use a simple under-and-over stitch all the way around. Leave a small opening so you can add a bit of poly-fil stuffing before closing it up.

STEP 4
Finish with more decorations, like a scarf around the neck.
