Making a great Apple Pie from Scratch is easy with the right apples and spices. I’ve been making this same recipe for years and it’s pretty much fail-proof.
Using the right apples is the key to making a great apple pie. There are many apple types you could use that will hold up well when baked. I use half granny smith to add a little tartness and half fuji or gala apples for sweetness. The spices are pretty simple too, a little nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar.
To make a very full pie you will need about eight medium apples. That said, the fuller the pie, the more likely it is to bubble over in the oven. I usually take my chances! 🙂
For the crust, I sometimes buy a pre-made refrigerated pie crust to save time but I really like to make my own. I made the crust here with my go-to pie crust recipe that’s all butter and always comes out light and flaky. If you have time and want to check out the recipe, here’s the link –> Flaky Buttery Pie Crust recipe.
I usually make a lot of apple pies in the fall (apple picking season). Since they get gobbled up quickly I almost always make more than one. Let me know if you try this recipe and love it in the comment section below.
