Make Paper Plate Mummies with your kids for Halloween. This is an easy craft – great for younger children.
I made these with my son’s 1st grade class for a Halloween party activity. If you’re a mom, you know the party scenario. I was given 15-minute to make a craft or do some kind of Halloween group activity with the kiddos.
I searched Pinterest and found this paper plate mummy craft. Many ideas involved weaving string or had moving eyes. This was way too complicated for a 15-minute craft that would hold 23 first graders attention.
To make things simple I kept the steps to a minimum. They all came out great and it was a big hit with the kids. I wish I had take a photo of all of them while they were out drying on the table– the photo above are ones my kids made.
Here’s how to make them…
Supplies You’ll Need
- Large googly eyes
- Paper plates
- White crepe paper streamers
- Kid scissors
- Crayons
- A glue stick (to glue streamers)
- School Glue (to glue on googly eyes)
How to Make Paper Plate Mummies

STEP 1: Start by coloring a paper plate first. Note: Plain old non-coated paper plates work best with crayons.
STEP 2: Use just a dab of school glue (or craft glue) to glue the googly eyes to the plate. Let that set up if you can for a minute or two.
STEP 3: Cut 5-8 strips of crepe paper off the roll and use a glue stick to glue onto the plate.
That’s it! You can punch a hole in the top and hang with string if you like.
