Two to-go style shaped, finished, felt air fresheners shown. The one on the left is a milkshake with a poof of white cream on top and a pink straw with a pick cup and a caramel color wrap with a heart in the center. The cup on the right is a coffee to-go style paper cup with a caramel color lid and center wrap with a smiling face with two pink felt cheeks. Both have lava heart beads at the top in pink and white for the coffee-cup smiling felt air freshener. This is an entirely handmade felt craft that can be scented with your choice of essential oil like peppermint, vanilla or pumpkin spice.

These DIY felt air fresheners are a simple, beginner-friendly weekend project. Inspired by to-go drink cup shapes, they can be scented with any essential oil you like—vanilla, pumpkin spice, and peppermint.

How to Make DIY Felt Air Fresheners

STEP 1:

To get started, download and print one of the free Felt Air Freshener Templates from the supplies list above. Use stick pins to pin each template piece to stiff felt and cut them out.

I gave recommendations for felt colors, but use any colors you like, and interchange the pumpkin for a heart or heart for a face. I also highly recommend using thick craft felt for this DIY – see the supplies list for felt recommendation.

STEP 2:

Next, hot glue your felt pieces together.

STEP 3:

Use a hole punch to make a hole in the top of your DIY Air Freshener and add a string and beads (optional).

STEP 4:

Put about 10-12 drops of essential oils onto the back of your air freshener. Reapply with essential oil after about two weeks, the scent will dissipate.

Note: Do not put your air freshener in a drawer or closet directly touching clothing or fabric. The oil may transfer and stain fabrics.

Optional: Add heart lava beads or natural unfinished wood beads to decorate the top. They add a nice touch and are functional. Lava beads are used to make aromatherapy bracelets and other jewelry because they soak up and hold scent well.

String beads with a wide-eye beading needle or a piece of thin wire (folded in half). Check out the video above for more details.
